Motherhood Journey

A significant milestone in a woman’s life is becoming a mother. This phase marks a complete transformation that occurs physically, mentally, and emotionally. At vaathsalyam, we provide a unique treatment for each mother, offering the joy of natural healing therapies through an integrated approach. A mother’s journey begins with the conception of an embryo.

Our Care

It is essential to provide ultimate care to the mother from the very beginning. What you nourish the mother with, in terms of physical, mental, and emotional aspects, will resonate in every anatomical and physiological system of the child's body. In Ayurveda, the pregnant woman is referred to as “Douhridini” (a woman with two hearts). Starting from the fourth month, when brain development begins for the fetus, the baby communicates its desires through the mother. Therefore, fulfilling the mother’s desires is crucial for ensuring the proper nutrition and supporting the physiological and psychological growth of the baby. Thus, proper prenatal care is vital for the mother throughout her pregnancy journey.

Nutrition

Prenatal nutrition plays a crucial role in supporting a child's growth throughout their life. Ayurvedic nutrition holds specific significance in prenatal care, distinguishing it from conventional nutrition. Tailored diets based on the dosha (vata-pitta-kapha constitution) and physiological conditions (such as gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia, thyroid issues, etc.) will be recommended to address micro and macro nutrient deficiencies in the pregnant mother’s body. At Vaathsalyam, we provide comprehensive nutritional consultations to all expectant mothers, fostering a healthy experience for both the mother and her baby, and facilitating a smooth delivery.

In Ayurveda, specific Ayurvedic medicines are prescribed based on the various ailments experienced by the pregnant woman each month, according to our classical texts. These remedies will greatly aid in the mother's proper metabolism and also promote the baby's growth during each trimester.

Prenatal & Postnatal yoga

Awareness of prenatal yoga is becoming increasingly widespread today. Let’s explore the benefits of prenatal yoga:

1. It aids in alleviating discomfort during pregnancy, such as back pain, and prepares the body for childbirth.

2. It enhances metabolism.

3. It encourages restful sleep and helps mitigate stress.

4. It facilitates a smoother delivery.

At Vaathsalyam, we offer tailored therapeutic yoga sessions for every expectant mother, nurturing her physically, mentally, and emotionally throughout this wonderful journey.

Postnatal care

Ayurvedic postnatal care is a well-established and effective treatment approach for both mothers and babies that assists new mothers in returning to a normal, stress-free life.

At Vaathsalyam, our postnatal care therapies encompass:

  • Ayurvedic medicines

  • External treatments

  • Nutrition

  • Postnatal yoga

Ayurvedic medications

After delivery, women often experience poor digestion and metabolism. Ayurvedic remedies can enhance metabolism, helping women regain their strength. Additionally, these remedies support uterine involution, alleviate various joint pains, nourish the body, and promote lactation.

External therapies

Postnatal therapies include:

Abhyangam (oil massage)

Mukhalepam (face pack)

Sirolepam (hair pack)

Kashayasnanam (decoction bath)

Veshtanam (abdominal binding)

Keshadhoopanam (hair fumigation)

Yonidhoopanam (vaginal fumigation)

The primary advantages of postnatal treatment include alleviating back pain and other joint discomforts, reducing pigmentation (chloasma) in different body areas and stretch marks (striae gravidarum), preventing hair loss, tightening abdominal muscles, promoting lactation, enhancing complexion, and nourishing the body.
